180 Amsterdam: Christmas Message

180 Amsterdam’s 2007 Christmas card took a light-hearted look at multiculturalism and the true meaning of Christmas. Alongside the card, which featured an empty stable, they sent a sticker sheet full of characters, animals, stars and gifts, inviting recipients to create their own nativity scene. The wide selection included Santa, a woman in a Burka, and a jazz band as well as the traditional nativity characters. It was an appropriate greeting from a company with over 24 nationalities, and an irreverent take on potentially divisive topics. By doing something different, 180 Amsterdam stood out in a season that’s usually full of clutter and generic ideas.
Droga5: Happy, whatever.

In 2010, Sydney-based advertising agency Droga5 took out a full-page ad in the Australian to send their Christmas message. It was an unusual move – the last time an ad agency in the region had advertised themselves in a newspaper was about 18 months previously. The minimalistic long-copy advert was a call to arms to other marketers, congratulating the industry for their work over the past year and encouraging them to have more fun in 2011. Written by Droga5 Creative Chairman David “Nobby” Nobay, the bold Christmas card drew admirers from across the world for its inspiring message, and served as a fantastic advert for the agency.
