At Colour Print, we’ve long embraced the principle of minimal waste / minimal impact eco-friendly printing. We’ve always offered recycled paper as an option and we switched to 100% vegetable based inks when the industry standard was still very much spirit based. More recently we’ve been offering carbon balancing on all clients’ materials.
Recycled Paper
Increasingly, one of the first questions we get asked in the planning stages of a project is: Can the items be printed on recycled paper? The answer is always: Yes. We can source a variety of recycled paper, including 100% post consumer recycled paper.
Vegetable Based Inks
Vegetable based inks contain fewer Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) than traditional petroleum or spirit based inks. This means they are cleaner to produce, less toxic in the workplace, and can be removed from paper ready for recycling more efficiently. Basically at every stage they have less impact on the environment and that’s why we choose to exclusively use these.
Carbon Balancing
For clients who share our commitment to sustainability, we can support them with completely offsetting the carbon footprint of their printed materials. There are the two initiatives we can draw on to ensure that any carbon dioxide created by the paper manufacturing process is balanced by corresponding amounts being captured by tree planting projects.
- World Land Trust - Since its foundation in 1989, World Land Trust has funded partner organisations around the world to create reserves and give permanent protection to habitats and wildlife.
- Woodland Trust - This organisation works closer to home, supporting rewilding projects and the creation, protection and restoration of our domestic forests and woodlands.
We’ve lots more to say on this subject, as the environmental picture for the print industry is constantly evolving. We will continue to be at the forefront of these changes, making sure that our clients and the planet are looked after.
