The Recuyell of the Histories of Troye is a book you will probably never have heard of, but is in fact one of the most famous printed works in the history of the English language. Last week the 540 year old book was sold at auction for more than £1 million.
Why is it so famous? Well, it was originally published as a French book around 1463, but was translated over a three year period by William Caxton and became the first book to be printed in the English language in around 1474.
Caxton was also the man who pioneered the printing press in England, establishing the first printing press at Westminster in 1476. At that time the majority of books were being printed in Latin, usually in Ghent or Bruges. The books he printed were famous for their careful craftsmanship and editing.
Over half a millennium later and Colour Print are proud to follow Caxton’s attention to detail when it comes to the craftsmanship of the work we produce for our clients. Our team specialise in helping businesses get the most from the print budget they have available, achieving the maximum impact with every project.
