Whilst there are many industries that have been hit hard by the rise of online businesses, one trade that has not been affected is the Christmas card market. For charities in particular, Christmas is a time when a great deal of revenue can be generated through the sale of cards and other types of charity gifts and marketing. We admit: we’re not ready to face the thought of our own Christmas shopping just yet. However, with just over three months to go, if you need cards designed and printed for your charity, ready in time for the Christmas season, it’s time to get cracking.
Spirit of Generosity
According to independent research, commissioned by the Royal Mail, traditional Christmas cards are still significantly more popular than ‘e-cards’, with 75% of people preferring a paper card to an online message. When it came to those purchasing the cards, 68% of people had no intention to decrease the number of cards they bought this year. At 43%, the majority of people polled posted their cards two weeks before Christmas and 30% completed their Christmas greetings at least three weeks in advance.
Choosing a Design
Whilst Christmas is just over 14 weeks away, many customers will be gearing up to purchase cards for family, friends and colleagues well in advance of the big day. When it comes to choosing a design for your cards, of course it depends on the aims of your charity and your target audience, but something with a broad appeal certainly won’t go amiss. The Royal Mail’s research indicated that a wintery snow scene was the preferred design of 22% of people polled. Next was a humorous card (14%), the Nativity scene (7%), and a Christmas tree or decoration (6%).
Season’s Greetings
When designing your charity card, another consideration definitely worth bearing in mind is size. Envelopes above 165mm x 240mm, or cards with a thickness of more than 5mm, now fall into the Large Letter category of UK postage and should have a Large Letter logo on the back of the card. Unusually shaped cards can also be more difficult for retailers to display. However, our team of designers will be able to work with you to devise the perfect Christmas card to meet your specified criteria. With over 20 years’ experience in the business, as well as competitive prices, we will ensure your charity makes the most of the revenue on offer with the Christmas card market this holiday season.
