Based in North Norfolk,
SMOKESILVER Travel are a specialist Africa travel company that puts experiences at the heart of its bespoke safaris. At Colour Print, we have the facilities to produce all kinds of print projects, from simple flyers to high-end bespoke designs. The stunning brochure we recently produced for SMOKESILVER is the latter.
We published the brochure in February 2016, but we first met with SMOKESILVER’s founders Simon Wilson Stephens and Juliane Dabs to discuss the project at the end of summer 2015. SMOKESILVER’s brochure is their most important marketing tool, so it was important to get it right. We needed to create something that reflected the beauty of Africa and the magical experiences of a SMOKESILVER safari.
From the start, Simon and Juliane knew that they wanted the brochure to have a landscape orientation that showed off the beautiful images captured by SMOKESILVER photographer Harry Cory-Wright. Over the next few months, we supplied Simon and Juliane with a selection of materials and mocked up brochures so they could see how each option looked and felt.
To do justice to the stunning photographs, a high quality silk coated stock was chosen as the text material. This provided the best possible reproduction of colour and enhances the impact of each remarkable shade and tone.
After exploring a number of binding methods a full thread sewn binding was chosen as the best option. As well as giving the brochure strength that will keep it in good condition for longer, its discrete appearance helps the reader to appreciate the beautiful images better.
For this project, it was especially important to consider not just the visual impact but also the feel of the brochure. SMOKESILVER Travel provides more than just a holiday – their clients experience a total sensual immersion in some of Africa’s most beautiful destinations. To reflect this, a tactile finish with both smooth and three dimensional elements was chosen.
Simon and Juliane visited us in late January to view their brochure in production and were quite taken aback at the vast array of colours that can be derived from just four colours of ink! The process requires careful attention to consistency. Our minders have considerable experience and regular colour checking by eye and by electronic equipment means this consistency is maintained throughout production.
It has been a great pleasure working with Simon and Juliane throughout the whole process and we’re thrilled to hear that their new brochure is working well for them.
