Colour Print Project: Brochure for adam&eveDDB and VW

In mid-February, we were approached by adam&eveDDB to look at an exciting new project for the launch of the new T6 California camper van from VW. Leading communications agency adam&eveDDB are behind some of the most recognisable marketing campaigns in the UK, including the John Lewis Christmas advert, H&M’s collaboration with David Beckham, and Android’s famous cartoon characters. We were delighted to be working with such a passionate and creative agency – if a little intimidated! The original VW camper van has become an iconic image of the 1960’s, and adam&eveDDB wanted it to be completely reborn in their campaign for the stunning all-new model. Renowned landscape photographer Harry Cory Wright captured the California against a range of stunning backdrops. But there was a twist: the California is hidden somewhere in the huge panoramic shots. Inspired by the glorious landscape imagery, adam&eveDDB came to us with a unique idea: they wanted to produce a large picture book that gave the photographs maximum impact while holding a hidden mystery. We were on hand to advise the team on the best combination of materials to achieve the look and feel they wanted for the brochure. We used GF Smith Black Plike in 330gsm to create a tactile cover – something you want to hold and leaf through. To give it a subtle, understated finish, we added the VW roundel dead centre of the front cover in a spot UV varnish. We used Satimat Silk in 250gsm for the text material. This paper produces quality colour reproduction consistently well, and is very different in texture and weight to the more rigid cover. Once the printing was complete, we packed, wrapped and sent the new brochure to all 80 official VW retailers around the UK, together with a covering letter advising them on how best to use it. It was a pleasure and an honour to bring this beautiful print project to life, and working alongside adam&eveDDB was a real treat. Can’t spot the California in our brochure?
