3 Reasons to Refresh Your Brand in 2017

Posted on 04/01/2017

2017 is here, and in the past few days you’ve probably heard (or even said) the phrase “new year, new me”. January makes many of us think about our goals, whether they’re personal or business-oriented, and it’s a good opportunity to change things up. At Colour Print, we’ve already been hearing from businesses who are updating their printed materials for 2017. Here’s why you should consider it too.

1. Improve your brand consistency.

It isn’t easy to maintain a consistent brand. When you have a few versions of your logo floating around, printed materials with out-of-date details, and several different people creating collateral, it’s easy for consistency to go out of the window. Brand consistency builds familiarity and trust in your customers. If someone sees the same logo many times, they’ll recognise that brand and what it stands for. But if they see several versions of the logo – even if they are similar – it’s unlikely they will make the connection. Lack of consistency dilutes your brand, and your message. Refreshing your brand (and your marketing collateral) is a great way to ‘tidy up’ and make sure everyone is on the same page.

2. Keep up-to-date with your company’s development.

It’s likely that things have changed since you last looked at your company branding. Perhaps there’s more competition in your industry than there used to be. Perhaps you’ve expanded into new areas and services. Odds are, your old branding doesn’t truly reflect who you are now and what you want to say to your customers. But that doesn’t mean it needs a total overhaul – a simple update might be all you need. Updating your font or freshening up your colours can keep your brand recognisable, but brings it into 2017. With big brands like Google, Instagram and Kodak changing their logos (and all of their branding) last year, you’ll be in good company.

3. Reach more customers.

If business is good, refreshing your brand is probably the last thing you think you need to do – after all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – but it could help you towards the next phase of growth. Meanwhile, if you are spending money on marketing but you aren’t seeing results, it doesn’t mean you need to throw more money at the problem. Your marketing collateral will work much better if you give some real thought to it, rather than just doing what you always do. Take a look at it this year before you get busy.
