Four Print Options that are Always Better than their Digital Alternatives

If you believed everything that you read online, you might think that the printed page belonged to a previous century and that digital represents the only future. However, to paraphrase Mark Twain: reports of the death of print have been greatly exaggerated. In many areas, digital options can’t compete at all and where they can, studies repeatedly show that consumers prefer a printed option to its digital alternative.

Direct Mail Marketing

We looked in depth at the reasons for the direct mail marketing renaissance last week, but the essentials are this. People are fed up with digital adverts popping up (and under) every time they want to look at a website. Creative design and careful targeting is making more people open and consider their direct mail, while junk email is consigned straight to the Spam folder.

Calendars

Everybody has a calendar automatically synced between their phone and their laptop. Google or Apple openly (and slightly creepily) record your every move. When it comes to organising a family there is no better alternative than the month-by-month calendar hanging on the wall. This details every birthday party and dinner party, doctor and dentist appointment, sleepover and night out with the girls for every member of the family. You can even countdown to your next holiday.

Invitations and Thank-you Cards

Big events, such as weddings, christenings and round number birthdays, sometimes require a more formal approach than merely forming a Facebook group. Receiving a printed invitation in the post is a delight. RSVPs are not always so formal these days but, if you have received a lot of gifts, a thank-you card is the polite response. Thank-you cards often say basically the same thing - so you can save a lot of time by having them printed.

Posters

Large-scale printed designs such as posters have no place online because they don’t fit on the comparatively tiny screens. If you are putting on a night of funky breakbeats, you want to tell everybody in the funky breakbeat community about it. Large attractive posters featuring details of your event can be displayed wherever the funky breakbeat community hang out. They will get the message and turn up to your event.
