Despite the rise of online and social media advertising, printed marketing media remains one of the most powerful ways of communicating with your customers. If you want to make sure your advertising stands out from the crowd, there are a number of things you may want to think about.
- Know your audience: It doesn’t matter whether it’s a new catalogue or printed flyer; everyone’s dream is to get a sale at the first time of asking. Chances are it could take 5, 6, 7 or even more viewings before the customer will consider making a purchase. It is therefore vital that you know your audience in order to make it as relevant to them as possible.
- Focal point: If you are creating printed leaflets it is important to ask what you are going to use to grab the customers attention. It could be a headline or it could be a striking image, but too many focal points could dilute your message so keep it simple.
- Text: The text of your advert is an excellent opportunity to tell your customers more about your product or service. But rather than simply listing its features, be sure to promote its benefits in jargon free and easy to understand language.
- Don’t plump for your first idea: Take the time to come up with several different ideas by playing around with text and image combinations. You may love your initial idea at first, but do you still love it the next day or the next week?
- Test: Your design might look fantastic on the computer screen, but the end finish is likely to vary depending on the type of paper or card you choose to print on so always check before your print thousands of copies!
